We love these niches, and we often find them in the underwriting preferences of certain Life Companies that give them a distinct advantage over other carriers in certain cases.  We know where they are and will guide you and your case to best advantage.

  • Cigar/pipe smokers and smokeless tobacco users may qualify for Non-Smoker Plus
  • Nicotine patch or Nicorette Gum users may qualify for Non-Smoker Plus
  • Up to one cigar per week with Negative HOS may be Preferred Non-Smoker
  • Former tobacco users who have stopped all tobacco and nicotine products for just 12 months with Negative HOS can qualify for non-tobacco rates, including Preferred Non-Tobacco.
  • Those with average life expectancy and do not meet Preferred underwriting criteria and are Cigar, Pipe or Chewing Tobacco users who may test positive for nicotine are considered as Standard Non-Tobacco.
  • Treatment for cholesterol not excluded from the Super Preferred rate class
  • Total cholesterol and cholesterol ratio are tiered by age and relationship of total cholesterol to the cholesterol ratio for all preferred rate classes.
  • Treatment for cholesterol or hypertension does not exclude a proposed insured from the Preferred, Preferred Plus or Standard Plus Classes
  • Individuals with cholesterol levels up to and including 249, even if on Cholesterol lowering medications may qualify for preferred underwriting
  • Family history of cancer is not considered in either the applicant's parents or siblings in any of the preferred rate classes.
  • Only family history of deaths from cardiovascular disease in the Super Preferred rate class is considered. (Not occurrences!)
  • Family history of cardiovascular disease in siblings is not considered for any of the preferred rate classes.
  • Family history preferred qualifications apply only if the proposed insured is 59 or less.
    Family history qualifications apply only to "deaths" rather than "disease"
  • Preferred and Standard Plus is allowed with a family history of deaths due to cancer
  • Family History qualifications do not apply if the proposed insured is 65 or older for Preferred Plus, Preferred and Standard Plus
  • Private pilots may qualify for Super Preferred or Preferred class rates plus a $0.48/M flat extra, depending on their flying history and the product applied for.
  • Most commercial pilots for US based airlines may qualify for preferred underwriting
  • Commercial pilots for regularly scheduled passenger airlines can qualify for all preferred classes
  • Private pilots can qualify for Preferred Plus, Preferred or Standard Plus classes with aviation exclusion rider (AER)
  • Civilian student and private pilots up to 200 hours per year may qualify for Non-Smoker Plus ratings

We look for the best possible impaired risk treatment for clients with the following impairments:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Bladder Cancer
  • Coronary Artery Disease
  • Diabetes Mellitus (Adult onset)
  • Asthma
  • Mood Disorders
  • Prostate Cancer cases
  • Hepatitis C
  • Build
  • Elevated liver function tests
  • Verified occasional marijuana use is allowed at Standard Non-Tobacco rates
  • Age Last Birthday
  • Build charts are unisex rather than sex distinct
  • APS guidelines for ages 18-60 do not include routine Age and Amount APS ordering.  APS's are ordered for cause only.

These may qualify for Preferred Underwriting:

  • Clients who plan to travel to most foreign countries for 3 months or less annually (business or pleasure)
  • Scuba divers who dive up to 100 feet
  • Individuals with cholesterol levels up to and including 249, even if on Cholesterol lowering medications
  • Male/Female 6’0”, ages 18-64, up to 213 pounds
  • Male/Female 6’0”, ages 65 and over, up to 228 pounds
